No. 679 Squadron (RAF) during the Second World War

No.679 Squadron was an anti-aircraft co-operation squadron that served in East Anglia from 1943 until 1945. The squadron was formed on 1 December 1943 by merging Nos.1616 and 1627 Flights. It gained their Martinets and Hurricanes, which it used until it was disbanded. When formed it also had some Henleys and Lysanders but they went early in 1944. In March 1944 a number of Barracudas were received and in April 1945 they were joined by some Vultee Vengeance dive bombers. The squadron was disbanded on 26 June 1945.
